Detroit writer, Hallie Owens was elated to help Cleo Mitchell write the history of the Mitchell Family of Alburn, Texas while helping to expose the guilt of a rapist. When Hallie arrives for a weekend in Texas to begin her investigation, she ends up staying several weeks. Why? "Mitch" Mitchell, Cleo's father. This causes a conflict with her loyalty in writing the story where secrets are kept and secrets are revealed.

First time author, Viola M. Walker has written a suspenseful story with romance and mystery that was enjoyable to read. Hopefully she has more to offer readers.
Miss Hallie Owens is a beautiful young widow that is a hard core columist who specializes in exposing the wrong doings to the black community. Even though Hallie's column is successful she dreams of writing a great novel.

Winston Alburn Mitchell Jr. aka Mitch is the head of his family successful law firm which helped his family become one of the wealthiest black families in southern Texas. Although Mitch is very successful professionally his personal life is in choas especially with his daughter Cleo.

Hallie and Mitch meet when Cleo gets Hallie to come to Texas under the pretense to write Cleo's family history, but Hallie is really there to help Cleo expose a rapist and murderer. The more Hallie digs into Mitch's family history the more she finds they have a connection to the murderer. Now Hallie is torn between exposing the murderer or tearing apart a family she has grown to cares about.

House of Secrets was a wonderful story. It has a little bit of everything in it. House Of Secrets made me reminded me that secrets never stayed hidden. House of Secrets is one book that I plan to tell everyone about.

A Detroit magazine columnist, Hallie Owens, who pens exposes for people who need assistance, is hired by the granddaughter of Auburn, Texas' first family, the Mitchells. Cleo Mitchell hires Hallie to investigate and uncover a local rapist of a young Mexican girl in Auburn, Texas; however, her cover is to write the Mitchell family history.

When Hallie arrives in Auburn, she is shocked to learn the reason for Cleo's interest in seeing justice served. After meeting with the patriarch of the family, Winston Auburn "Pops" Mitchell Sr., and receiving his approval, Hallie's interests is truly in writing the Mitchell family history. Hallie decides to take both assignments and Cleo and Pops are none the wiser.

HOUSE OF SECRETS by Viola M. Walker reveals years of hidden secrets for all of the characters involved; romance prevails, death occurs and insanity arrives. Walker did a good job of explaining and highlighting the characters' behaviors by delving back into the family's history. The characters are blunt, honest and emotional; some likeable, others not. The pictures painted were vivid and detailed. HOUSE OF SECRETS is a captivating read that begs your attention.

House of Secrets by Viola M. Walker had me wanting to turn the pages faster than I could read them. Who would have known that going from Detroit, Michigan to Auburn, Texas, would change the lives of so many people? Not me and certainly not Hallie Owens.

Hallie, a columnist, was hired by Cleo Mitchell to write an exposé on a local criminal. To get Hallie to Texas without anyone finding out the real reason, Cleo told her family Hallie was there to write the long anticipated history of the Mitchell family; a dream that Winston Auburn "Pops" Mitchell Senior, had for many years.

In her quest to write what could be the best thing to happen in her career, Hallie finds herself torn between the two promises she had made; one to Cleo and one to Pops. Hallie finds her heart wrapped up in a host of family secrets. It was up to her to choose who to remain loyal to. Would it be Cleo or Pops? One way or the other lives would change and secrets would be told.

House of Secrets was an engaging, intensely emotional read. I tried to turn the pages faster than I could read them. I wanted to know more and experience exactly what the characters were feeling. The pacing was perfect, even though most of the story took place over the course of a few days. I highly recommend House of Secrets to anyone looking for a quick read.
