Darkness Revealed Guardians of Eternity Book 4 Alexandra Ivy 9781420102963 Books Reviews

I will continue to read this series until the end...that I hope never comes. These are action packed with a healthy amount of romance but not too smutty (which I appreciate)!
Another great continuation of this series. A new vampire has been introduced in preparation for the next book. I love that even though the story continues to move forward the author creatively integrates all the previous characters. Definitely recommend reading this.
I've read three of Alexandra Ivy's books now and this is by far my favourite, Conde Cezar is everything a powerful vampire should be and more. It's a fast, funny and romantic adventure and the Gargoyle Levet is a wonderful character, irritating and ingratiating his way into everyones hearts. For more sexy vamps, French ones this time, check out The Key to Erebus (Les Corbeaux The French Vampire Legend) or for the British version The Bitter Seed of Magic (A Spellcrackers Novel)
Another book that I couldn't put down, boy, that Alexander Ivy can write. I read it on my lunch hour and almost forget to eat. It has adventure, romance a strong female and all the common heros and villains, like werewolves and vampires and the comic Levet, my favorite French gargoyle. What else could you want? Write more books Miss Ivy, Please.
I think this could have been a good book -- if it had been reduced by about 80%. The author constantly writes about him leaving 200 years ago; he is not able to tell her why and she is angry about it. Okay, okay, okay, okay! After saying this a hundred times, we GET IT. Move on! Seriously, every other page has this mantra going and it is highly annoying.
I found it so boring, I would soon be nodding off.
Simply could not finish it. After hearing the same thing repeated over and over, I just didn't care anymore.
If you need something to put you to sleep at night, this is a great one. If you want a captivating story, look elsewhere.
This world of the Guardians of Eternity is creative and dark and dangerous and punishing and hopeful all at the same time. Conde Cezar and Anna Randal had one night of passion 195 years ago -- at the end of which, he left her. Now that Anna finally has found him, she is out for revenge. Cezar has a duty assigned by the Oracles. He must protect her at any cost. Hard to do when she is the one trying to harm him. And the story begins. The fey are out to capture Anna -- a human who knows nothing of this demon world. With her usual masterful storytelling, Ms. Ivy again grabs me and hurls me (a delighted companion) into this world. Magic and bloody fights and passion and sorrow abound as the protagonists slip the clutches of Morgana la Fey only to end up in the hall of the Oracles. What a fine story of adventure and love.
This was the best book so far in the series, to me. The plot was the most enjoyable of the series yet, I think. I'm getting used to the books not having an overarching plot. Every character in this one gets exactly what they need, want, or deserve, if you ask me. I won't bore you with a plot summary as I know other reviewers are fond of doing that. The only real problem I had wit this book is its lack of chapter demarcations. Chapter demarcations make it so much easier to know how close one is to the end of a chapter or to find a stopping place when necessary. If you enjoyed the previous books, I say you should give this one a shot because I don't think you'll be disappointed. Have at it! It's quite a ride full of adventure and emotion and just enough titillation to not fall into the smut category fully, although I wouldn't recommend anyone younger than a teenager read this series. I can't wait to read the next one.
I have to admit to a feeling of, "Wha?" when I read the synopsis for Darkness Revealed. ***Spoilers for the last few books*** What about Santiago? What about Salvatore? What about Darcy's long lost sisters? Who the heck are Cezar and Anna? Why should I care about these unknown characters?***End Spoiler***

Tempted as I was to skip ahead to Salvatore's book, I made myself read Darkness Revealed. Ms. Ivy is now on the level of my very favorite authors, the ones whose character and story judgment I never question. This story rocked from the first page to the last.

Very Brief Synopsis - Anna and Cezar have a one night history together, a night Anna is convinced changed the course of her life forever. That night did change Cezar, but to spell it out would be a big spoiler, and I don't want to go there. Let's just say Anna is very, very special. Her ancestors are also renowned, and Anna is the last link in a magical, mystical destiny. Very Bad Fairies seem to have it in for Anna, and Cezar has been given the burden of her protection. Anna needs to learn more about her past, and her history in order to have any hope of having a future. With the help of the vampires, their mates, and the wonderful Levet, it's a race to put an end to a centuries long family battle.

What works - Pretty much everything worked in Darkness Revealed. Cezar, so handsome and protective, has been waiting for Anna to come back into his life for almost 200 years. Even though he could have been in great peril for "getting close", shall we say, he can't help himself. We know from their first encounter that Cezar wants Anna, and he shows her over and over how much he cares for her. Cezar also recognizes that Anna is a formidable power in her own right, and does not try to hold her back from fulfilling her destiny. Cezar's longing, his almost desperate desire for Anna, was so beautifully expressed. His anguish when he thought she was lost to him was heart wrenching.

Anna is a tough cookie. She's been on her own for almost 200 years, making her own way. She has become a lawyer, fighting injustice because she feels like that gives her a purpose. Anna has been harboring a certain level of anger at Cezar since their night together, and when she finds out he will be in Chicago for a fundraiser, she is determined to confront him. She doesn't expect to have feelings for Cezar, but as soon as Anna sees him, she realizes she is far from over him.

Cezar isn't able to explain why he had to leave Anna after their encounter so long ago, and asks that she trust him. Anna struggles with that a bit. Cezar's actions soon prove that he is sincere.

Oh, this story was great. The action was ongoing and fast-paced. The history, or mythology, depending on your viewpoint, is a particular favorite of mine. The romance was very hawt and sweet. I love how Ms. Ivy writes love scenes. She is able to express the emotions of the characters clearly, in a way that melts this reader's heart, yet the heat level is still fairly high. Perfect blend of lovely and lusty.

What didn't work as well - A 200 year separation seems a bit much. That said, it didn't really impact the story at all, so I would call this a nitpick.

Bottom line - So glad I kept reading in order, and trusted the author to deliver the story that needed to be told. This is an out of the park winner of a series. Time and money extremely well spent.
