I have binge read my way to book four in this series. The first three books were free so I downloaded them. They read seamlessly from one to the next. I am very picky when it comes to series. Even if the first two or three books are good, if the story loses its integrity or becomes sloppy I won't keep reading just because I've already started the series. So far this series has not disappointed me. I will purchase the next book, and for as long as this author continues to keep me captivated I'll see it through. I enjoy her writing style and her skill at developing the story. Harper and Jackson are easy to connect with and I am eager to see how their relationship will progress, as well as how Harper's life will change as she begins to realize her true potential and strength. As her powers grow, the control others have over her will fade. Some of them have gotten used to being in control and will not easily relinquish it. Not everyone wants her to take her rightful place. There are enemies waiting in the shadows and in plain sight. Everyone has secrets. Everyone has their own agenda. Who can she trust? Is her destiny sealed? So far, there are far more questions for her than answers. I'm looking forward to discovering them with her.
The SD series is hands down one of the best ive ever read. How anyone can give this 3 stars or less is beyond me. Idk what else they could want from a paranormal romance series?

The story teling and charactger development are completely on point. The imagination and dedication it took for Cannon to create this world time affter time, book after book is way beyond my comprehention. She manages to hit every requirement I have when looking for those extra special books. These arent your avg HEA, smile at the end, shut it and forget it books. Nope, these are your hold on for dear life, chew your fingers, squeal with delight, edge of your seat, rush to turn the page yet never want to end type of books. Trust me )

If you are a fan of paranormal romance or even if you've never read anything paranormal, just strictly romance, I PROMISE YOU THAT YOU WILL FALL IN LOVE WITH THIS STORY. These books take you on an epic winding journey you wont be quick to forget, FACT!
Book Review- Beautiful Demons by Sarra Cannon

In this first book in the Peachville High Demons series, Harper has been kicked out of six foster homes in a year. Mrs. Meeks, her caseworker, is at her wits end and is sending her to Shadowford. This is Harper’s last chance. If she can’t make it work she is going to Juvenile detention until she is eighteen.
Something is weird about Shadowford. She feels an undercurrent of something but doesn’t know what. Her new school is obsessed with football and the cheerleaders. Harper is shocked and can’t get on the band wagon. When she goes to her first football game she loses her necklace. Things start getting weird after that. She comes face to face with the mysterious Jackson, she is questioned about murder, has strange dreams and then seems to lose herself.
There is more going on in Peachville than meets the eye. Harper starts to suspect things. Going along may be the only way to learn what and why things are happening and she seems to be the next chosen one.
This story started out very mysteriously. Harper’s situation seems vicarious. This is her last chance. I felt for her instantly. You know she isn’t normal and can’t seem to control what she can do.
Then she ends up at Shadowford and the author made it pretty creepy. I know something else is going on. The vibe almost jumps from the page. I like how Harper isn’t drawn in. She stays true to herself until the others step in. After that she forgets everything but fitting in. I almost stopped reading it. I hated the direction the author started taking the story. I couldn’t stand seeing her become a cheerleader and one of them. I hope the next book in the series shows her taking back control. This story gets 3 out of 5.
Beautiful Demons is the first book in the ten books of the young adult series, the Shadow Demons Saga. The protagonist, Harper Madison, is a teen orphan with supernatural powers she has yet to control.

THE PROS
Harper has a lot at stake which made the story compelling to read. She could be sent to juvie if she screws up this time, even if on accident.

I don’t gravitate toward YA fiction (I’m middle aged). But even though the characters and situations are aimed at younger readers, I still found Beautiful Demons an enjoyable book.

Harper is a flawed character which makes her more realistic. She’s also likable, so it was fun to cheer her on.

THE CONS
In the first quarter of the book, there were some over-written passages. Perhaps Cannon hadn’t settled into her writing groove yet. I took off half a star.

It was too short! I wanted a longer read I could delve into for awhile. I took off half a star for this.

The prose felt rushed and perfunctory in the last quarter of the novel which meant the ending wasn't as satisfying as I thought it could be. I took off half a star for this.

OVERALL
This was a fun, fast, engaging read with an empathetic protagonist. Beautiful Demons is one of Cannon’s earlier books which makes it quite impressive that she wrote it as a new author. I’m only giving this book 3.5 stars, but I’m sure her writing has improved since this story was published, and I wouldn’t hesitate to read another of Cannon’s books.
